Photograph: W.A. McAlpine. Second-story, large, contemporary space with unusual architectural detail. The western exposure with its intense afternoon light has a view 90 percent obstructed by the white side walls of a neighboring home. This pair of windows illustrates the impact of light on project design. Originally, the client desired a design incorporating a great deal of transparent and clear, textured glass for this remodeled space. However, once remodeling was complete, the need to block the heat and intensity of the summer sun became apparent. To alleviate this problem, the design was modified to incorporate the rich jewel tones and vivid colors favored by the client. |
